The "Spam Words" Myth

For a decade, marketers have obsessed over lists of "spam trigger words." They believe that writing "Free" or "$$$" guarantees placement in the junk folder. In 2024, this is demonstrably false.

Context Over Keywords

Modern Bayesian spam filters are incredibly sophisticated. They do not look at single words in a vacuum; they analyze the entire context of the email, combined with your domain reputation and recipient engagement history.

If a highly reputable sender (like Amazon) uses the word "Free," it lands in the inbox. If a brand-new domain with no DMARC record sends an email containing only the word "Hello," it goes to spam.

Formatting is the Real Trigger

While words don't matter much, formatting does. Using excessive exclamation points (!!!), ALL CAPS, or strange fonts/colors strongly correlates with spam in machine learning models. Keep your emails looking like plain, human-typed text.

Focus on meaningful personalization instead of dodging imaginary trigger words.
